SACPSSA provides various professional development opportunities for teachers in SA primary schools. SACPSSA, in close collaboration with ACHPER (SA) offers a variety of programmes and initiatives to support teachers in current pedagogy and practice for teaching and learning in Health and Physical Education. Early in Term 2, SACPSSA, working in partnership with ACHPER SA, conducts a series of Student Leadership Workshops, which offer effective student leadership initiatives to support Daily Physical Activity and promote an active curriculum, as well as structured leadership strategies through personal and social skills to motivate older students to run effective leadership programs in schools. The workshops feature a range of practical and theoretical components to inspire developmentally appropriate activities for students and ties in with the personal and social capability component in the Australian Curriculum.
SACPSSA will again be offering one and two day registration sponsorships to Catholic school teachers to attend the annual ACHPER SA Health and Physical Education Conference, which will be held in the April school holidays. (In 2024, Monday, 15th & Tuesday, 16th April, at Brighton Secondary School.) Information will be distributed by the SACPSSA Executive Officer to all school coordinators.
Each September, together with ACHPER (SA), SACPSSA runs a full day professional conference for teachers in primary schools across all sectors in SA, and supports Catholic school teachers by offering free attendance at the primary conference. This event usually attracts around 100 participants. SACPSSA is delighted to continue this long standing working partnership with ACHPER. In 2024, the SACPSSA/ACHPER Primary Years Conference will be Monday, 23rd September, at The Lights.
The Professional Development program is co-ordinated by a sub-committee of the association, while accessing the outstanding event organisation resources of ACHPER SA.
