SACPSSA provides various professional development opportunities for teachers in SA primary schools. SACPSSA, in close collaboration with ACHPER (SA) offers a variety of programmes and initiatives to support teachers in current pedagogy and practice for teaching and learning in Health and Physical Education. During Weeks 6 and 9 of Term 1, and in the first week of Term 2 (in 2026), SACPSSA, working in partnership with ACHPER SA, conducts a series of Student Leadership Workshops, which offer effective student leadership strategies to implement school-based programs such as regular physical activity; support to junior primary PE lessons; out of hours sport, or other cross curricular programs. The workshops provide leadership strategies through personal and social skills to motivate older students to run effective leadership programs. The sessions feature a range of practical and theoretical components to inspire developmentally appropriate activities for students which link to the personal and social capability component in the Australian Curriculum.

SACPSSA will again be offering registration sponsorships to Catholic school teachers to attend the annual ACHPER SA Health and Physical Education Conference, which will be held in the April school holidays. Information will be distributed by the SACPSSA Executive Officer to all school coordinators.

Each September, together with ACHPER (SA), SACPSSA runs a full day professional conference for teachers in primary schools across all sectors in SA, and supports Catholic school teachers by offering free attendance at the primary conference. This event usually attracts around 100 participants. SACPSSA is delighted to continue this long standing working partnership with ACHPER. In 2026, the SACPSSA/ACHPER Primary Years Conference will be Monday, 21st September, at The Lights.

The Professional Development program is co-ordinated by a sub-committee of the association, while accessing the outstanding event organisation resources of ACHPER SA.
